Folded in Speech
Folded in Speech is a 20-minute play text which was first performed at Collisions Practice Research Festival 2017.
Interrogating the paradoxical dynamic of silence in the aftermath of traumatic loss; where the subject is both compelled to speak, but simultaneously unable to do so, this piece of practice research explored moments of what I term ‘traumatic silence’ and its possible inscription into performance text. By looking at the ways in which silence can be produced by language, or dramaturgical structure, the practice questioned if and how a performance text can begin to ‘speak silence’ (Loevlie, 2004:82).
